FVP National Sprint League News and Notes from Fairmont and Huset’s Speedway!

FVP National Sprint League News and Notes from Fairmont and Huset’s Speedway!

Windom, MN (August 25, 2015) – It was another big weekend of racing for the FVP National Sprint League. Danny Lasoski won in front of a packed house at the Fairmont Raceway in Minnesota. Meanwhile, Dusty Zomer picked up his second NSL win of the season, taking $8,000 at Huset’s Speedway south of his hometown of Brandon, South Dakota on Sunday. Following are some notes from the weekend…

Blistering an old record – It had been almost 30 years since 410 sprint cars had been to Fairmont, so you had to figure the one-lap track record would fall. Who knew that it would be broken by over three seconds? Ian Madsen covered the banked ½-mile oval in an unreal 14.244 seconds, and average speed of around 127 miles per hour! Ian had a good weekend, finishing second at Fairmont and fifth at Huset’s, moving himself into second place in the standings.

“Shock”ing ending – Craig Dollansky was impressive all night in the TKS Motorsports #2KS at Fairmont. He was comfortably cruising in the third spot when a broken shock resulted in a blown left rear tire in turn three of the final lap. He would finish eighth on the rim. Look for the team to pick up the majority of NSL shows remaining after Knoxville’s season closes on Saturday.

Number 7 – The draw was key, but Danny Lasoski was still dominant in his feature win at Fairmont. He led every lap to pick up his series’ high seventh win. He also leads the series with 13 podium finishes in the 18 features contested. He has registered 13 top fives and 15 top tens! He finished second at Huset’s after starting in row three, and challenged Zomer for the win late in the going.

Dusting Up – Dusty Zomer navigated lapped traffic with ease to pick up the win on Sunday at Huset’s. He had to hold off a late race charge by Lasoski, who showed his nose in turn two. Dusty was able to shoot around a pair of lappers in three and four with five laps to go and hold them all off. He also leads the weekly point standings there, and has registered 11 top five finishes in 12 events at Huset’s. Dusty’s win at Huset’s Sunday was worth a cool $8,000 after Chuck Brennan, who will open Badlands Motor Speedway on the site in 2016, chipped in a $5,000 bonus.

“The Big Unit” is back – After not having a solid power plant since early July, Austin McCarl, now forever known as “The Big Unit” has a healthy motor under the hood again. He turned in his first podium finish of the season with the NSL at Fairmont, inheriting third after Dollansky’s misfortune. Look for Austin to gain steam as the season closes!

TK on the Charge – For a time Sunday night, it looked like Tim Kaeding may pass Lasoski and Zomer and take the win at Huset’s. That went away with a smack of the wall late, and he settled for third. Despite still looking for his first win, he is second only to Lasoski in top ten finishes this year with 16. He trails only Lasoski and Madsen with seven top five finishes.

Rough Ride for Schulz – The improvement this season for Eric Schulz at Huset’s Speedway has been evident. Unfortunately, after driving from 22nd to 14th, a competitor lost their front wheel. Eric could not avoid, and flipped violently down the front straightaway. Fortunately, he was uninjured.

Easy as 123 – The NSL has now run eighteen events, with a total of 123 different drivers competing. That number should go up considerably this Sunday when the series co-sanctions their event with the IRA in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

The series is back in action this Friday night, August 28 at Randolph County Raceway near Moberly, Missouri, Saturday, August 29 at the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa and Sunday, August 30 at the Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin with the IRA.
